Getting around Riyadh: metro, taxis and practical routes

Use the metro for suitable city journeys and arrange road transport for outlying attractions. Plan the final leg as carefully as the main route.

Match the journey to the transport

Riyadh rewards planning by district. Use the metro when stations fit both ends of your journey; use a taxi or another arranged car journey when a venue sits away from the network. A station near a district name does not necessarily put you at the attraction entrance.

Arriving at King Khalid International Airport

The airport is served by Metro Line 4, the Yellow Line. Follow terminal signs and use the airport’s metro page for the terminal map. The airport publishes metro operating hours of 6 am to midnight; check the day’s service information if landing near the beginning or end of service.

Tickets and payment

Standard two-hour public-transport tickets start at SAR 4. Longer-duration passes are available, and the airport lists contactless card and Apple Pay payment. Use the Darb journey planner to check the route and fare that fit your trip; keep the same payment method available for the gates.

Make the final leg realistic

Open the venue’s entrance instructions before choosing a station or drop-off. Check the walking route and weather, especially with children or luggage. For a taxi, agree the destination and follow the provider’s fare information; at the airport use the signed transport arrangements.

Outlying attractions need a return plan

For Qiddiya, JAX or a particular Wadi Hanifah access point, consult the destination’s current transport instructions. Arrange the return before setting off and leave margin for traffic. Do not build the day around an unverified shuttle timetable.

Keep the day in a sensible order

Our one-day itinerary moves from the National Museum to Al Olaya, with a break between them. The two-day plan gives outdoor time and art their own day. Start with these routes, then check live journey times.
