Choose the dunes for an afternoon on the sand
Choose a Red Sand Dunes outing when you want sand scenery, time for photographs and an activity such as sandboarding. For a first visit, book an arranged trip with return transport and enough unhurried time outside the vehicle. Keep the programme simple if some of your group would rather enjoy the view than ride.
This guide focuses on arranging a dune visit in the Al-Muzahmiya area west of Riyadh. The named programmes below provide a practical starting point. For a cliff walk instead, choose Edge of the World; compare both styles in Desert Day Trips.
Settle the destination before the journey
“Red Sands”, “Red Sand Camp” and similar names appear on different Riyadh excursions. Ask which dune area and camp you are actually booking. A product with a familiar name may use a different side of the city.
Keep nearby destinations distinct. Visit Saudi’s Al Kharrarah National Park page says that park does not require an entry ticket. That does not establish free entry, parking or activity prices at every site called Red Sands.
For the arrangements below, use the provider’s confirmed arrival instructions. A tour’s location pin is a booking reference, not a public visitor gate or permission to follow an off-road track independently.
A four-hour activity outing through Seyaha
Seyaha’s Al-Muzahmiya Red Sands listing names وجه جديد لتنظيم الرحلات as its provider. The four-person option describes a four-hour programme with quad riding, a camel ride, a driven dune session, sandboarding and dinner. It also supplies a tour-location link.
Read the package label before comparing the price. On 12 October 2026, the four-person activity option displayed SAR 2,000. The SAR 600 option was labelled sedan transport for up to four people, not the complete excursion. Transport is offered separately.
Get one written total covering your group, transfer and chosen activities. Confirm how the booking quantity relates to the group package, rider requirements and the exact start and return times. These are displayed package prices, not a confirmed quote or evidence of seats on your travel date.
An alternative in Al-Muzahmiya: Alazm Safari
Alazm Safari’s own brochure places its programme in Nafud Al-Masha’la, Al-Muzahmiya, and describes hotel transfers, driven desert experiences and camp hospitality. It is an alternative named dune outing in the area; do not assume it uses the same site as another Red Sands product.
Use Alazm’s booking contact to settle the arrangements. Its brochure and online form show different timings, so get the current programme and collection time directly before committing. Do not turn an advertised travel-time estimate into your own arrival deadline.
Choose the activity that makes the trip worthwhile
| Your priority | What to arrange |
|---|---|
| Dune views and photographs | A daylight arrival and time outside the vehicle; keep away from riding areas. |
| Sandboarding | A suitable slope, a board, instruction and time to walk back up. |
| Quad biking | Actual riding time, eligibility, a briefing, protective equipment and supervision. |
| A relaxed camp evening | Seating, shade or shelter, toilets, meal details and a confirmed journey home. |
Use the quad biking and sandboarding guide for activity comparisons. If the meal and camp setting matter more, start with the desert safari guide.
Plan the arrival and return together
For your first visit, arrange collection and return transport as part of the booking. If you prefer to drive to a meeting point, obtain the permitted road approach and parking instructions first. Do not assume that reaching the edge of a dune field means an ordinary road car can continue to the activity site.
Ask how far you will walk on soft sand and whether you can stay at a seated base while others join activities. Confirm toilets, rest stops and any individual access needs with the provider rather than relying on a general family-friendly label.
RCRC’s information on the Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal Reserve covers parts of the wider Dhurma–Al-Muzahmiya area. Its establishment announcement gives no visitor-opening date and does not say that all existing activities stop. Confirm the arrangements for your actual site; it is neither a general admission notice nor a blanket closure notice.
Choose comfortable conditions and leave room for changes
Choose a cooler day and, where the programme allows, arrive with daylight to spare. Use Best Time to Visit Riyadh to plan the season, then check the forecast for your date and route. Read the desert safety guide for weather checks, water, clothing and emergency preparation.
Keep an overnight stay separate from an evening outing. If sleeping outside is part of the plan, use the camping guide to arrange accommodation and permissions. For a dedicated telescope session, use the stargazing guide.
Build the rest of your visit through the Outdoors hub and Travel Guides.

Frequently asked questions
Where should I meet for a Red Sand Dunes trip?
Use the meeting point supplied for your booked programme. Similar product names can refer to different dune areas; confirm the destination and return arrangements.
Is there one entrance fee for Red Sand Dunes?
Do not assume a single gate or admission tariff. Activity packages, transport and private camp access are separate arrangements. A nearby park’s ticket policy does not apply to every dune outing.
Can I drive there in a normal car?
Ask for the permitted road approach and meeting-point parking. Reaching a road near the dunes does not establish that your car is suitable for the off-road section; arranged transfers are the simpler first-visit choice.
Can I book just the view without riding?
Ask for a programme with time for scenery and a seated base. Confirm whether you can opt out of rides and whether that changes the price or itinerary.
Does an evening trip include sleeping at the camp?
Do not assume it does. Overnight accommodation, facilities and site permissions need separate confirmation.
